American Express is known for offering some of the most rewarding credit cards. The best Amex business credit cards make it easy to earn bonus points on your usual expenses. Whether it’s plane tickets, advertising, office supplies, or something in between, there is an option for you.
Quick List of Some of the Best Amex Business Credit Card Options
Business Platinum Card from American Express
The Business Platinum® Card from American Express can be a business traveler’s best friend. This card is loaded with perks:
- $200 airline fee credit
- Complimentary airport lounge access
- Free Global Entry or TSA PreCheck
- Earn 5x points on flights and prepaid hotels booked on AmexTravel.com
- Earn 1.5 points on purchases larger than $5,000 (1x point on everything else)
- Transfer points to airline and hotel loyalty programs
- Get 35% points back when redeeming points on award flights
- Upgraded Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors loyalty status
The Business Platinum Card from American Express is best for frequent flyers. You earn double the points on plane tickets compared to most rewards credit cards. Plus, free airport lounge access includes The Centurion, Priority Pass, Delta Sky Club, and Plaza Premium networks.
Your points are most valuable when redeemed for award flights. Each point is worth 1 cent each when redeeming award flights on AmexTravel.com. You get 35% of your points back on one airline of your choice plus business or first-class flights booked on any airline.
So if you redeem 40,000 points for a flight, you get 14,000 points back to redeem a second time.
The 1:1 Membership Rewards airline and hotel transfer partners are a potentially more valuable redemption option. Some of the airline partners include Delta, British Airways, Emirates, Qantas, and Singapore Airlines.
This card does have a $595 annual fee but no transaction fee (See Rates & Fees). Plus, new cardholders can earn 100k points.
Limited-Time Welcome Offer
To earn the 100k, you’ll first have to spend $10,000 on qualifying purchases within the first 3 months of card membership, which will earn you 50,000 points. Then, spend an extra $15,000 on qualifying purchases during the same 3 months to earn the additional 50,000 points.
So, this means you’ll need to spend $25,000 on qualifying purchases in the first 3 months of account opening in order to earn the 100,000 points.
You also get one free year of Platinum Global Access from WeWork when you enroll by December 31, 2019.
American Express Business Gold Card
The American Express® Business Gold Card lets you earn Membership Rewards points. Your first $150,000 in combined annual spending earns 4 Membership Rewards per $1 on the 2 categories which your business spent the most each billing cycle:
- Airfare purchased directly from the airlines
- Advertising in select media (online, TV, and radio) – U.S. purchases only
- U.S. purchases made directly from select technology providers of computer hardware, software, and cloud solutions
- Gas stations – U.S. purchases
- Restaurants – U.S. purchases
- Shipping purchases – U.S. purchases
As Membership Rewards points are most valuable for booking award flights, one of your bonus categories might be airfare purchases. Besides airfare, only U.S.-based business purchases earn 4x points.
Although the American Express Business Gold card doesn’t come with lounge access or travel credits, you do get 25% of your points back (up to 250,000 points back each calendar year). You also have access to the 1:1 Membership Rewards airline and hotel transfer partners.
The Business Gold Card annual fee is $295 (See Rates & Fees).
Right now, the welcome offer is worth up to $500 in statement credits with select FedEx purchases. However, this limited-time offer ends on November 6, 2019. If you ship items to customers, this can be a handsome bonus.
Blue Business Plus Credit Card from American Express
The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express is the best flat-rate rewards card for earning Membership Rewards. You earn 2 Membership Rewards points per $1 on the first $50,000 spent yearly. Plus, all remaining purchases earn 1 point per $1.
It doesn’t have an annual fee which makes this a perfect primary or secondary credit card (See Rates & Fees).
There isn’t a welcome offer. However, there is a 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 12 months.
American Express Blue Business Cash Card
If you prefer cash rewards, get the American Express® Blue Business Cash Card. Instead of earning Membership Rewards, you get 2% cash back on the first $50,000 in annual purchases then 1% back.
Amex automatically redeems your rewards balance as a monthly statement credit.
There isn’t an annual fee and you can enjoy a 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first year.
However, if you would to compare cards, see our review of the Blue Business Credit Cards from American Express. If you want another example of business cash rewards vs travel rewards, the Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business or Capital One® Spark® Cash Select for Business are two other options. Plus, this card also offers these Marriott Bonvoy benefits:

Also, new cardholders of one of the best Marriott credit cards can earn 75,000 bonus Membership Rewards points after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of card membership.
Your points are most valuable when redeemed for hotel stays. Also, you have the option of transferring your points to airlines over 40 airlines on a 3:1 ratio. This isn’t the best transfer option but transferring more than 60,000 points at once gives you 5,000 extra air miles which helps equalize the ratio.
